Chinese Embassy in Dominica holds a Reception in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China

On September 20th 2019, the Chinese Embassy in Dominica held a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. H.E. Charles Savarin, President of Dominica and Mrs Savarin, Hon. Ian Douglas, Acting Prime Minister of Dominica, H.E.  Eliud Williams, Former President of Dominica and Mrs Williams, all Cabinet Ministers on the island, Hon. Lennox Linton, Leader of the Opposition and other members of Parliament, Ambassadors of diplomatic corps as well as representatives from Chinese community in Dominica attended the reception.

H.E. Lu Kun, Chinese Ambassador to Dominica and Hon. Ian Douglas, Acting Prime Minister of Dominica delivered a speech respectively.

Ambassador Lu reviewed the great journey of the Chinese Communist Party leading the Chinese nation from poverty and weakness to prosperity, shared the remarkable achievements of China's reform and opening up in the past 41 years, and elaborated on the concept of "A community with a  shared future for mankind" advocated by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Lu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Dominica 15 years ago, bilateral relations had developed rapidly with deepened political mutual trust, bilateral pragmatic cooperation as well as people-to-people exchange. Lu appreciated that Dominica always firmly adheres to the One-China Policy and supports China in the international affairs.

Lu stressed that China supports Dominica in its efforts to build the world's first climate-resilient nation and will continue to help Dominica in its economic and social development. Lu expects that China-Dominica relations will continue to deepen and believes that China and Dominica will achieve common prosperity and build a better world with joint effort.

Acting Prime Minister Douglas on behalf of the Dominican Government expressed his heartfelt congratulations to President Xi Jinping and all Chinese people on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He also spoke highly of the achievements of Dominica-China relations.

Douglas said that China is a responsible country which is willing to share its achievements with the world. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, China had helped Dominica with many great projects such as the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, the New Town Primary School and the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, contributing a lot to Dominican economic and social development.

Douglas stressed that the Dominican Government will continue to firmly adhere to the One -China Policy and firmly support China in the international affairs. He wishes China prosperity and lasting China-Dominica friendship.

The guests expressed their warm congratulations on China's National Day and praised China's development achievements and its great contribution to the world. They also highly valued the Dominica-China relations and expected the friendship between two countries will continue to deepen.

Live videos showcasing China's great achievement in the past 70 years were also played at the Reception and were well received.
