At around 2:10 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at Chennai International Airport. As Xi Jinping walked out of the cabin, Governor of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, and the state's Chief Minister Edappadi K. As Xi Jinping's motorcade departed from the airport for the city area, many local students and residents lined up in the streets, waving the Chinese and Indian national flags, holding portrayals of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and chanting "China-India friendship" to express their warm welcome to President Xi Jinping.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Sun Weidong, Chinese Ambassador to India, also greeted Xi Jinping at the airport.
