On September 11, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin met with Kim Soo-Han, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in the Great Hall of the People. The two sides held talks on China-ROK relations, the situation in Northeast Asia and other issues of common interest.
China and ROK have conducted sound exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, culture and security since the two nations established diplomatic ties, Jia said, adding that China would like to join hands with ROK to deepen mutual understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation and boost an all-around cooperative partnership.
On the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Jia said China will continue its efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the peninsula, promote the peaceful resolution of the issue through dialogue and realize the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
Kim said that the exchanges between the two countries enjoy a time-honored history and have been developing rapidly since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Both sides have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, considerable trade volume and stable bilateral ties, which carries significant meaning for peace in Northeast Asia.
Secretary-General of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Zheng Wantong was present at the meeting. Kim and his delegation are in China for a visit at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Besides Beijing, they will also visit East China's Shandong Province from September 12 to investigate the cooperation between the two countries.
